Pollution refers to the process of making land, water and air dirty and unsafe and unfit for use. With the increase in world population, pollution is increasing day by day at an alarming rate. Pollution can be mainly divided into three types: air pollution, water pollution and soil pollution. We are going to discuss them with the problems associated with them.
Air Pollution Air is mainly made up of carbon dioxide, nitrogen and oxygen. About 99% of the air is made of nitrogen, oxygen and inert gases. Air pollution occurs when the composition of the air is altered by adding different things to it that do not normally exist. The common type of them is that particle which occurs as a result of burning the fuel and those particles rise up in the air and cause air pollution.
Another common type of air pollution is due to dangerous gases such as carbon monoxide, CFCs (chloral flora carbon), sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and other chemical vapors.
The CFC that is usually present in the compressor of the refrigerator is the main responsible for the depletion of the ozone layer. The ozone layer is made up of O 3 and each time the CFC rises, a reaction occurs between the O 3 and the CFC that breaks the O 3 layer causing its depletion. Now this has a very dangerous effect on human beings, causing skin diseases and many other similar problems, because the harmful rays of the sun directly hit the human body. A recent study has shown that around 2 million people die each year from air pollution. This amount is very alarming.
Soil pollution or land pollution refers to the condition where garbage and industrial waste are dumped without proper recycling. According to the US ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, it produces around 250 tons of garbage and only 34% is recycled and the rest is landfilled. Especially in developing countries, where there is no proper system for waste disposal, it really causes life-threatening diseases, for example measles and diarrhoea. Leaving garbage on the ground is very helpful in spreading bacteria, viruses and fungi that cause many diseases. Garbage must be properly managed by recycling it to protect the earth from contamination.
Water pollution occurs when different materials from different sources are added or enter the water, such as different chemicals, sewage, certain metals such as lead and mercury; fertilizers from agricultural runoff and are the main factors contributing to water pollution. Water pollution is a global problem. According to the United Nations, 783 million people do not have access to clean water and around 2.5 billion people do not have adequate sanitation. This amount of pollution seriously affects marine life. Water is very necessary for life. Life cannot exist without water. The human body is made up of 70% water. Knowing this important information, we realize that the water must not be contaminated because contaminated water causes many diseases, such as diarrhea, constipation. Polluted water will not only cause human diseases, but also make life difficult for marine life.
