Most people think that having ripped, ripped abs is something totally unattainable. Kind of like winning a million dollars or dating a supermodel… I used to think that too, especially when I was tipping the scales at 270 and I couldn’t fit into my XXXL t-shirts. My gut had gut!
Luckily I was able to turn things around and check this out, I got abs without even doing cardio! Now I actually have the same pants I wore in high school… Here’s my story:
I was actually a pretty skinny kid in high school, but when I went off to college I learned about all sorts of new things like beer, jello shots, and late night burritos, the list goes on and on… Then college, I continued to eat like a champ until I found myself alone, obese and depressed at the ripe old age of 27.
I knew I had to do something to get down to a healthy weight, so I started going to the gym every day after work. I knew cardio was supposed to be really good for weight loss, so I got on the elliptical machine and regularly put in two hours a day.
At first I lost 15 pounds, which was great, but when I took a month off over the holidays, I ended up gaining it all back. When I got back to the gym and saw the scale read 271, I was beyond pissed.
From there, I tried everything from weight loss pills to liquid diets to “cleanses” to taking all sorts of weird Asian herbs, but nothing seemed to work for me.
Just as I was about to throw in the towel and eat a cheese steak, my friend Mike started me on a program that had produced excellent results. I reluctantly gave it a try… And the weight literally melted away in a period of about 6 months.
Within a year I had authentic shredded abs like a fitness model. And because I lost weight in a healthy way over the course of a year, my skin tightened up again, so I don’t have those giant flaps of skin like you can get if you lose weight too quickly.
I can’t tell you exactly what I did to lose weight right here in this article, but I can tell you that:
1) I never had to starve. In fact, whenever I was hungry I ate, and I don’t mean salads… I had bacon and eggs for breakfast several days a week. I ate steak regularly, and even allowed myself dessert a couple of times a week.
2) I didn’t need to do sit-ups or sit-ups. I definitely went and still go to the gym regularly, and I exercise quite a bit. But abs aren’t something I’ve had to train to get my six pack. (Now that I have it, I’ll repeat with oblique crunches a few times a month just to get some extra definition, but that’s fun!)
3) I NEVER did cardio. The only thing I do that even resembles cardio is walking, housework, gardening, and the like. I haven’t set foot on an elliptical machine in years. The weight training I do gets my heart racing and helps me burn as many calories as I want.
When I was 270 lbs. I never dreamed that she would have ripped abs in this life. Now when my friends and I go to the beach or to a nightclub, it’s me the ladies look at, and it feels AMAZING!
