You have to admit, it’s not every day you see a smartphone with a built-in projector. It’s also not that common today. In 2010, Samsung released its first smartphone with a projector and they called it the Samsung Galaxy Beam. You might not see any of the old Galaxy Beam, but if you look in the right place, you’ll see it. Around 2012, Samsung released a newer version of this phone and also named it Galaxy Beam.
It is quite sad that the production of the first Galaxy Beam has not reached the masses. But in Asia, it was a different story. But still, if Samsung’s first projector phone was able to reach the US and European market, it will be a different story. With its 3.7″ AMOLED screen and 8MP shutter capable of 720p video recording, it was an excellent phone in 2010.
Moving on, Samsung has decided to give its first projector phone a wider audience through the new Samsung Galaxy Beam. Yes, a huge opportunity was missed when it didn’t show up during Mobile World Congress 2012, but here it is back in sight. Samsung has decided to be careful this time and who can blame them? The new Beam may be a downgrade from its original version (ie AMOLED to LCD, halved memory, shrunken MP camera, etc) but, again, it comes with improved processing prowess. With its 1 GHz dual-core processor, you can bet that this is a fast phone. Although the new Beam lost a couple of camera resolutions, its new 15 lumens really make up for it. Doubled RAM is also a welcome addition to the phone. It may not be a total upgrade, but at the same time it’s also not a total downgrade.
So what else can you expect from this phone? Well, there’s the phone’s 2,000 mAh battery. There is also the option of Wi-Fi connectivity. You’ll also get the Polaris Office document viewer and editor. The phone runs Android Gingerbread with TouchWiz 4.0. This phone now comes with a larger 4″ screen with 16 million colors (480 x 800 pixels). The new dimensions of the phone are 124 x 64.2 x 12.5 mm and it weighs only 145.3 grams.
These are just some of the things you’ll enjoy in the latest Samsung Galaxy Beam. This is the newest projector phone from Samsung and it is more than interesting.
