These are some of the main destinations for the next rest plan! Although this list talks about destinations for spring breakers and parents alike, they are not to be confused with one another! The last thing a parent of young children needs is a hotel room in a hotel full of belligerent twenty-one year olds.
South Padre Island, Texas. This hotspot is fast becoming one of the hottest spots around, attracting large numbers of wild college students looking to have a good time. Good weather, warm water and above all; a great welcoming committee. South Padre is one of the few places (like Daytona in the past) that actually caters to this rowdy crowd. Sure, there are some companies and places that don’t support it; but for the most part, the island welcomes them.
Steamboat Springs, CO. A great family atmosphere for late spring skiing. Throughout North America, it’s the Colorado peaks that typically still offer fresh snowpack and trails. But be sure to bring the suntan lotion with you – you’re likely to get a big “snow burn” on those little kids’ faces if you don’t reapply often.
Panama City, Florida. This hotspot has become one of the friendliest places for students in recent years. It’s also where MTV has chosen to set up shop to cover the infamous spring break tradition. Beach party and fun levels are high throughout the spring break season.
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. This is one where a little cross-pollination could happen and be fine. After all, it is a medium-sized city with room for everyone. Downtown, with its bars and nightlife, is experiencing a college student renaissance over spring break. While outlying hotels and all-inclusive resorts make big profits on vacationing families.
Havasu City, AZ. Usually a dusty and sleepy town 300 days a year, this little enclave comes to life during the spring when loads of muscled men in bikinis arrive with motorboats in tow. The lake literally dazzles not with sunlight, but with the shine of polished metal. The boats are often tied together, one after the other, creating a prolonged party that begins in early March and continues throughout the season. This is definitely a place you don’t want to get stuck with the youngsters. This is BYOB and for older people and more experienced party goers. I am sure that twenty years will pass in which this place will bring out the best of itself.
Disneyland, CA. Located in sunny Anaheim, California, this perennial family favorite still shines during spring break. The California weather serves as a beacon for those just digging across the country. And those big ears and wide eyes attract the young. Be sure to purchase a California Pass and get access to both California Adventureland park and Disney land to boot.
