The group now better known as Travis Porter aka “Travvvy” has taken the rap world by storm and coined hits like “All Da Way Turnt Up” along with Roscoe Dash, “Go Shorty GO” and “Bananaz” and the list just goes on. growing as they invade its radio waves. Many think they came out of nowhere, but they’ve done it long before fans mistook them as one person rather than the artistic trio that is Strap, Quez, and Ali.
Let me tell you how I first exposed myself to the group and what they mean to the Atlanta music industry. Travis Porter before name and fame were just three young men growing up on the streets of Atlanta, Georgia. youth in Atlanta, because parents want their children to become doctors, lawyers, and teachers. Atlanta, Ga, is all about party promoters, the next big producer, and the most popular rapper of the week. They really come and go as fast as the trends in the fashion industry. One week is this guy and next week is that guy, but Travis Porter has the next week and beyond, because in 2009, through all the controversy and ups and downs, they laid the groundwork in the rap game and did it all. independently, I must add.
Go back to last year, when they appeared on the undeniable hit “All Da Way Turnt Up,” which is when I first realized there were three guys and not one. From the song that was featured on TV shows to the theme song for NFL teams as they entered the battlefield, there was nowhere the song wouldn’t be heard and everyone screamed Travvvy until a formally known newcomer. Like “ATL”, now Roscoe Dash, he put up a YouTube Video claiming the song was his and that Travis Porter only appeared on the song. This turned many Travis Porter fans and many Travvvy fans against the newly found Roscoe Dash, because no one really knew who the creator was, until they did the noble thing and came up with the fact that it wasn’t their song. It does not mean that they stole it, but that it was a mere confusion between the promoters of the club who hired them under the song, their management and the greed of business.
Then, to add to the confusion, newcomer Roscoe Dash relaunched the single “All Da Way Turnt Up” with young rapper Soulja Boy, which was a strategic move knowing the song would hit the radio and spread like wildfire on line due to the large fan base of rappers. of screaming teenage boys and girls who instantly coined Roscoe Dash as the creator. You’d think it marked the end of Travis Porter, but not only did they take the bullet and fail to buckle under the weight of a major record label like Soulja Boy, instead they released another single called “Go Shorty Go” which quickly became popular and went out on record. the streets of Atlanta with a bang and then it was followed by quality video you wouldn’t normally see coming from an independent group. Needless to say, by now you’ve probably heard of Travis Porter and know his story.
Yes, they are still unsigned, they still have hits (go shorty go, bananaz etc), they have their own indie movie that just came out today (March 6, 2010), they have appeared on the “Monique Show” and are on tour throughout the United States for sold-out shows. So you better believe it is Travvvy Mania.
