Gothic fashion style has become tremendously popular in recent years. Initially an underground style only worn by a select few, this style has become very trendy as it has gone mainstream. Many people find it fun to wear this style sporadically, while others have integrated many aspects of the look into their everyday clothing. This style integrates some basic elements from many different styles, creating a truly unique look. Using aspects of leatherwear, Victorian aesthetics and punk, the look has both high and low cultural aspects. Footwear has become one of the areas used by both followers and fans.
Boots. For both men and women, boots are a very popular look. Gothic boots have a great look that is very industrial with a bit of flair. These boots are usually especially long to the leg and have very pronounced buckles and straps. The leather is usually very shiny and the bottom of the foot has thick treads.
Platforms. In just about any shape of shoe, boot or otherwise, platforms are extremely popular in this style. These are made with thick rubber and add a few inches of lift. The elevator is not a heel, however. The riser is flat and allows the user to walk as he normally does without much discomfort. The extra height adds more to the look of the wearer and increases the length of the leg in a subtle way.
Victorian. These models of shoes, usually women’s shoes, these products try to imitate the look of the Victorian style through a very delicate design that has a particularly ornate appearance. However, unlike the Victorian aesthetic, these products are jet black in color.
Men’s shoes. For men, gothic shoes are much more subtle than their feminine counterparts. They can still be as big as a statement. Often times, these products mimic older styles from the 1920s and other eras, but still retain the dark leather and shiny stainless steel.
Fun sneaker. The gothic style often integrates images of death, skeletons, and other macabre images. Sneakers, slip-ons, and other goth shoe staple styles have been reworked with these images, again featuring the dark colors that suit this look.
Each of these styles can be integrated into many other styles, so they can be fun to play around with, even for those who aren’t completely goth. However, it can end up being a quick step to fully converting to this fun look.
