If you’ve dieted before, you know that sometimes sticking to a diet can be difficult. So now that you’re considering the Medifast diet, you might be thinking, “What will help me stick with Medifast?” Well, I have some tips that should help you achieve your goals: lose excess weight.
1. Follow the Medifast Program Exactly
Medifast has been around for over 20 years and the doctors and nutritionists who have formulated the diet know what works. Therefore, it is important that when you receive your first Medifast order, that you read the booklet that came with it and follow the plan as written. I’m going to cover the most important parts of this plan in the following tips.
2. Eat all your Medifast meals
Medifast is a very low calorie diet plan, so it is important that you do not skip any of your meals; otherwise, you may not get enough calories and nutrients every day. And when you eat your five Medifast meals every day, you’ll have a much easier time fighting cravings for foods you shouldn’t be eating. In fact, you may find that you don’t have any cravings after a few days.
3. Eat your food lean and green
I have seen some people decide that if they can lose weight quickly by eating five Medifast meals and the Lean and Green meal every day, they can lose weight faster by eating six of the package meals and eliminating the Lean and Green Meal. But that’s not a great idea.
Lean and green food is an important part of the plan. It provides a significant amount of daily protein and fat, as well as fiber from the vegetables you will eat. This is important to make sure you stay regular. The most common complaint about Medifast that I have seen is constipation and eating lean and green will help keep this at bay.
Lean, green food also provides something important that helps most people stay committed to their diet: satiety. Satiety is that feeling of fullness and satisfaction that you get after eating. And it’s an important part of making sure we stick to our plans.
4. No more than one Medifast bar per day
Medifast bars are quite tasty. In fact, I think they may be a bit too tasty, as I would happily eat several of them every day. But the Medifast folks limit them to one per day. The reason they do this is that eating more than one bar each day will increase the amount of carbs you get daily. And cutting carbs is important to keep your appetite in check.
Also, my own experience with Medifast bars is that they tend to trigger my sweet tooth and make me crave other sweets. So by eating more than one a day, they can make it harder to stick to your plan. In fact, some dieters find it best not to use the bars in their plan, preferring to stick with shakes, oatmeal, and other products. So if you find that using Medifast bars increases your cravings for sweets, you can try eliminating them.
I believe that if you follow these tips, you will find it quite easy to lose weight on the Medifast program and you will achieve your goals. Just remember that the best way to stick with Medifast is to follow the plan to the letter. It can feel a bit boring at times, but the rewards feel really great.
