With the weather warming and the summer vacation fast approaching, I decided to go in search of the plus size swimsuit that would best fit me. We all know that swimsuits can be quite expensive, but personally I’m willing to pay the price for something that is not only durable, but figure-flattering and stylish. The last thing you want to have on your vacation is an ill-fitting bathing suit, as you will basically be living with it for as long as you are in your tropical paradise.
One of the most important things to me when shopping for a plus size swimsuit is being fit. As a mother, wife and plus size model, it is important to me NOT to show all my “business” to the whole world. I’m looking for a swimsuit that I can not only wear from the patio to the pool, but one that I can wear to the slide park or for a day at the beach with the family. It’s always nice to have a couple of different options depending on the occasion, but I know we don’t all have that luxury, so we can make a suit work for all of the above.
In my search, I visited many different stores in the mall that I know carry plus size clothing like Torrid, Macys, and JC Penny to see their swimwear collections. In each store I tried on a variety of swimsuits and had no luck. I just couldn’t find a suit that would fit me and be stylish at the same time. I came home feeling frustrated and exhausted, so I decided to sit back and surf the web looking for other options. While searching online, I came across some amazing plus size swimwear styles that were nowhere to be found in the mall on sites that I knew focused on fashion and plus size sizes.
The first site I looked for was LaneBryant.com and I found the Miraclesuit “Oceanus” One Piece Swimsuit for $ 134.00 available in black and ocean blue. This is a classic look for any occasion and has a special stretch fabric that provides additional support to give you a noticeably slimmer silhouette. You can’t go wrong with this swimsuit!
The second site I visited was AlwaysForMe.com, where I fell in love with the $ 79.00 Twist Front Bandeau plus size one-piece swimsuit available in a variety of colors. This swimsuit has been featured in a variety of magazines such as O, The Oprah Magazine and is considered one of their best-selling swimsuits. This suit has everything I look for in a plus size swimsuit. It has full tummy control, gathered sides that help create a curvy waist, a super cute skirt that provides some coverage but doesn’t make you look like you’re wearing a full bathing suit, and the halter strap is removable. INCREDIBLE! This style is perfect for going from the patio to the resort pool. I also love how easy it is to shop on their site and the amount of detail they give you about each and every item. You can also shop for your A + body type at Alwaysforme.com.
Lastly, I visited Swimsuitsforall.com and found Delta Burke’s “Tigress” Plus Size Halter Tankini in Brown for $ 98.00. This bodysuit is super cute and has a high V neck for good coverage and fitted sides with a drawstring bow detail. This is a great two-piece style and it works perfect for an apple-shaped girl. I love it!
These are just 3 plus size swimsuits that I found to be the best in durability, fit, and style. I feel like all women of all shapes and sizes deserve to wear beautiful and elegant swimsuits and feel confident. So far, the plus size collections I found online for 2009 have some amazing options to suit every shape. So have fun this season, be adventurous, try something new, and always love the skin you are in.
