There are a lot of Windows Vista myths circulating in the news, online, in various types of media, and possibly even in your community. Ever since this version of Windows was released and consumers first experienced it, there has been quite a bit of misinformation and assumptions that simply have no basis. Here I will divulge some of the myths that have been surrounding Windows Vista so that you can get a clear idea of fact and fiction.
1. One of the early myths of Windows Vista is that it is actually as secure as Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed. While I don’t want to undermine the general security features of Windows XP, there are some very decent security measures for this operating system. Windows Vista’s security is completely restructured and offers numerous advantages in the security area that XP simply does not have. Examples of these improvements include “User Account Control” or “UAC”, and even the ability to run and operate Internet Explorer 7 securely. Windows Firewall is also further improved in Vista, so it keeps you more secure.
2. The next Windows Vista myth that seems to be going around pretty quickly is that it doesn’t allow a user to use peripherals that were used with other Windows operating systems. In addition to this, it is said that many old applications will not work with Vista. Logically, we have to consider the fact that Microsoft would really be falling short if it created a Windows program that wouldn’t work with other popular programs. Why would they make Vista so difficult? Windows Vista works great with all my old peripherals and all the basic applications I use regularly.
3. Many people have refused to upgrade to Vista due to the myth surrounding computers that must be installed to run this type of system. There’s no reason to go out and buy a high-powered computer just to run Windows Vista! This is absurd! I’ll tell you right now, some hardware companies are starting this to get people to run out and buy a new system. Same guys for all those peripherals that people say won’t work with Windows Vista. Someone somewhere is just looking to make money somewhere, that’s all.
4. The next Windows Vista myth is that there’s nothing really new about the system, it’s just visibly attractive. Well, I can also make Windows XP visibly attractive! If it’s the “Wow Factor”, why bother going through all the development work, marketing and whatnot? Of course, it has new features and a higher level of functionality!
5. I know I’ve talked about security enhancements and all that with Vista, but there is another myth that this version of Windows will completely eliminate any and all security related issues. The truth of the matter is that there will probably NEVER be an operating system that does this. Why? Because there are new programs, hacks, and security threats being created every day, over and over again. While security is improved, it is not 100% effective against security threats. If you find a system that is, feel free to let me know. It would be an amazing discovery!
6. Now, onto this whole “dual boot” thing. Many enjoy dual booting because they can run two operating systems at the same time. There is a myth, of course, that this is not available with Windows Vista. You have to be kidding, right? Of course, you can dual-boot with Vista. I’m surprised anyone actually thinks a newer and improved version of Windows would be missing this feature.
7. Now, while we’re on the subject of dual things, let’s cover the Windows Vista myths surrounding these high-powered dual-processor computers. I’m not sure why anyone would be under the impression that this form of Windows wouldn’t work on a two processor system, but he turns around and says that you must have a high-end system to run Vista, but I’m guessing that’s just rumors for you. The fact is that it can and WILL work on the super sweet dual core processor machines.
8. The next myth about Windows Vista, which really frustrates me because I WISH it were true, is that it comes with Microsoft Office 2007 for free. Yes of course! How is this going to be true? There is a free trial, but the march for money continues. If you like Office 2007, you still have to buy it. While we’re on the subject, many think that Office 2003 will not work on Vista, again wrong. I’m using Office 2003 to write this on Vista right now. Great news for everyone who seems to love Office 2003 like me: it works on Microsoft Vista. No need to worry about these Windows Vista myths!
9. Now for some reason there is a rumor going around that you can’t copy music on Windows Vista platform. Well you can! That’s really all there is to say about it.
10. Now the last Windows Vista myth I can expound at this point is the price. Apparently this version is “gold” and is supposed to be very expensive, even more than Windows XP. Truth be told, Vista averages the same price with many more options in total.
Conclution
Well, as you can see, Windows Vista myths are doing the rounds… so it’s important to be aware. Well now you know! I have officially debunked the myths and delivered it straight to you. So now you can run out and get your Windows Vista upgrade without any fear!
